Cairo — Tel Aviv, 1940
At the beginning of the War, most of the
Jewish volunteers were only allowed to
join the Pioneers Corps, a non-combat unit
engaged in road construction. Later the
Jewish Brigade fought on the Italian front
and became an integral part of the Army of
Occupation in Europe.
Letter sent from Cairo to Tel Aviv, 22.10.1940,
endorsed to “Active Service,” with “Jewish
Pioneer Corps” cachet alongside.
