Yavneel was founded in 1901 as an agricultural settlement in the lower Galilee, approximately 6 kilometers west of Degania. Most settlers came from Germany. The settlement had 400 - 500 inhabitants in 1911-12. The secretary of the settlement during the 1911-12 period was Elieser Gordon, who was also responsible for postal matters. The mail which accumulated at the settlement was marked with a special cachet and was dispatched 2-3 times per week to Tiberias on the back of a donkey and the return mail, consigned to the settlement, was brought back in the same way. There was no additional charge collected by the colony for dispatching the mail to Tiberias.
