Migdal is located about 8 km north of Tiberias on the Sea of Galilee. The modern history of the colony of Migdal started with small group of Catholic Germans who identified the site as the birth place of Mary Magdalen and settled there in 1908. They left after a year and the land was bought by Zionists from Russia, who founded the agriculture farm Akhuzat Moskva (Moscow Estate) in 1910. The farm was dissolved a few years later and the land sold to private investors. An encampment of Gdud HaAvoda workers, who were building the Tiberias–Rosh Pinna road, was established there in 1921, and a new group settled down there in 1923–1924.
