The Photochrom Co - Orell Fussli invented a process in Switzerland known as photochrom. In 1890 his Photoglob Co of Zurich sold the rights to use the photochrom method in America to the Detroit Publishing Co. In 1894 he sold rights to the British when the Photochrom Zurich Co was established in London as well as emergence of the Photochrom Co Ltd in the same year. Frank M. Lambert joined the company in 1903. A few years later (probably 1907) he, together with a circle of friends, raised the purchase price and acquired Photochrom Co. Ltd. Mr Lambert became the new managing director of Photochrom and headed the company thereafter. The Photochrom Co are renowned for their vast ranges of both monotone and color view cards. The company added a symbol of a bear-and-staff to identify their early view cards. Regulations changed and they eventually added both their name and place of production like the "Celesque" series of color views. Holy Land views were also produced by the English Company due to contracts with various religious promotion groups.
