The Saint Louis World's Fair, or the Louisiana Purchase Exposition (Universal Exposition of 1904) ran for 7 months from the 30th April to the 1st December, with over 12 million people attending. The enormous size of the exhibition incorporated over 250 exhibits with 34 international, 45 USA and over 400 other buildings. Interestingly the largest of all the exhibits was the open-air reproduction of the city of Jerusalem which occupied 11 acres of area. The fair coincided with the boom in the interest in postcards, and it is fairly natural that the fair organizers and the exhibit sponsors produced postcards for the occasion. Souvenirs of Jerusalem, include black and white views and a group of 6 colored views printed by American Colortype, are all apparently old Bonfils photographs.
